Cover Songs

Cover songs tend to have a poor reputation, and probably for good reason because they rarelt mount to anything more than karaoke.

Just occasionally a cover song manages to be superior to the original. Here are some examples (in no particular order) off the top of my head:

Hallelujah, Jeff Buckley (original by Leonard Cohen)

Wild is the Wind, Nina Simone (original by Johnny Mathis)

Hurt, Johnny Cash (originally by Nine Inch Nails)

Nothing Compares 2 U, Sinead O'Connor (originally by Prince)
